Spotlight: Christabel Corazza, Director

Originally from Mizoram, India, Christabel is the youngest of eight children. She grew up in several countries, including Australia, Nepal, Colombia, Oman, China, North Korea and Jamaica and then later chose to live in South Carolina, USA. Christabel is married to Glen Corazza and they have three wonderful, energetic boys. Christabel enjoys spending her time at home with her sons, but is also involved in leading worship, singing, writing songs, teaching voice and keyboard lessons, mentoring younger believers and developing her latest passion—directing Carolina Voices of Faith (CVoF) and The Crew.

Where it all began …

Christabel’s studies took her from the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains (Woodstock International School) to the Royal School of Music of Great Britain, where she earned a distinction in voice performance. Later, she came to the US and toured with a Professional Repertory Theater in Los Angeles, California. The Lord combined her love for cultures, people of the world and music to serve Him through singing and sharing her personal faith journey in places such as India, Australia and for the Governor General of Jamaica. She has performed at Disney World in Orlando, FL, sharing the stage with 80’s top artists such as Truth, Mylon LeFevre, and Crystal Lewis. She has opened for the Imperials, and has helped lead worship for a Joni Erikson Tada Conference and for Dr. Bruce Wilkinson when he was president of Walk thru the Bible. She has also served as a voice for Compassion International.

With the arrival of their new family, touring was set aside to invest in the children. With the decision to stay at home, the Lord provided a wonderful opportunity to serve her church, Manchester Creek Community Church, Rock Hill, SC, as the Director of Music. Recently, she had the opportunity to direct a community choir that accompanied Christa Wells, where she wrote the choral arrangements for Christa’s songs “Pass it On” and “On the Mountain.”

When asked, “How did God bring you to the point of founding Carolina Voices of Faith and how has he orchestrated it?” Christabel says, “I have had a passion to bring churches together to serve the community in Christ’s name. As we have love for one another, the world will know that we are disciples of Christ. Music, as I see it, is a vehicle for me to touch the world for Jesus. After working with Christa, I saw that people were interested in participating in a choir that served the community. The Lord started to introduce me to musicians and singers in the area who were interested in combining our talents to serve the Lord and thus, CVoF and The Crew came to be. The Lord is building this ministry, I and many in the group are simply a few of the vessels that have said, ‘Yes.’”

Moving forward …

Christabel’s vision for CVoF is to bring together all kinds of musicians and singers who are hungry to serve the community in Christ’s name. They desire to share Christ, through their words and acts of service as well as through the music. “We learn to love our brothers and sisters in a real way. Leading people into worship is our goal. To know Him and make Him known as we serve Him and learn to serve others is all-important to this ministry. To work hard on our craft and, through excellence, shine His light.”

If you would like to get involved with the CVoF or The Crew, contact Christabel at carolinavoicesoffaith@gmail.com to set up an audition. The vocalist or musician needs to be willing to put in the time for rehearsals, to learn the music, and have a teachable spirit. Christabel says, “We are not looking for perfection, but excellence. Give Him all that you’ve got and get ready for an amazing journey!”

Rockin' it at the Ribbon Fest

Saturday, June 19, 2010 the Carolina Voices of Faith (CVoF) took the stage with The Crew and The Gathering FM Band at the Sherry York Kits Ribbon Fest in the Pointe Performing Arts & Rec Center in Fort Mill, SC, to perform for the crowd that had gathered. The Ribbon Fest was held in honor of Sherry York Kitts who lost her battle with cancer last year. The York County Cancer Association helps families by providing financial assistance for medications and other cancer-related needs so they are better able to fight the disease.

The CVoF and The Crew performed three songs: "On the Mountain" by Christa Wells, with CVoF soloists Jennifer Barnes, Dwayne Ingram, and Lydia Mims; "Holy is the Lord God Almighty" by Christabel Corazza, with solos by Genelle Billings and Christabel Corazza; and the gospel flavor of the event, "Give Him Praise" by Lincoln Brewster, with solos by Dwayne Ingram and Phillip Harris.

Robert Morrison, worship leader for The Gathering FM Band, invited the audience to come close to the stage and worship with us as they closed our time with "Jesus, Messiah" by Chris Tomlin.

Everyone who attended the event was exposed to the power of the unity that exists in Christ. More than 10 churches within the community were represented among the FM Band, the CVoF and The Crew alone. The Church worshipped with one voice as they sang praises to Christ.

It was touching to see our artists rub shoulders with artists from the other bands and with the community. And to see them stand together for a cause that is important and personal to so many—demonstrating that Jesus cares about people who are suffering.
